Boeing Defence Australia enables reach-back to The Boeing Company’s Training Systems and Services (TSS) division based in the U.S. TSS is developing innovative technology for integrated live, virtual and constructive (LVC) capabilities for training in the Distributed Mission Operations (DMO) environment.
Boeing’s Project Alpine is a spiral effort to develop and demonstrate LVC technology. To date, Boeing has conducted both surface-to-air and air-to-air demonstration events where a live F-15E aircraft was connected and communicated to a facsimile of the DMO network. A manned F-15E simulated virtual entity interoperated with the live aircraft as a wingman and constructive entities were presented on the live and virtual radar displays as threats.
By expanding the reach of the existing DMO network, Project Alpine demonstrates the power of the virtual environment when applied to live platforms. Using this technology and current industry-standard protocols, minimal modifications are required to integrate the live platform into the simulated environment. Integrating the virtual and constructive environment with live platforms decreases costs, while simultaneously increasing the effectiveness of live aviation training.
